Youth Aged 11-18 Can Ride for Free on OC Transpo This Summer!

This July and August, youth aged 11-18 can ride for free on OC Transpo buses, trains, and on Para Transpo.

You can purchase a Presto card for $4.00 at participating Shoppers Drug Mart, Loblaws, and Real Canadian Superstore locations. Ensure your pass is set to a “Pre-Teen or Youth” pass when you purchase it.

Note: If you have a Student Transit Pass through your school, you will not need to purchase a new pass to access this offer.

Then, your card will allow you to ride for free when tapped on the fare gate or fare reader.

Join OFSN’s “Safe & Secure” Book Club

Ottawa Family Support Nework (OFSN) invites you to join their FREE, guided book club series for families planning a secure future for loved ones with developmental disabilities, based on Safe and Secure: Seven Steps on the Path to a Good Life for People with a Disability (Ontario edition).

What to expect:

  • 9 sessions (2 in-person, 7 virtual)
  • Topics: Vision, friendships, housing, decision-making, finances, advocacy, future planning
  • Guided discussions and connecting with families

Reading is optional, and free books are available.

Registration Now Open for FREE Youth Program, “The Hive” from March of Dimes

The Hive is a free youth program (ages 17-25) offered virtually by March of Dimes for teens and young adults with barriers either visible or invisible who are looking to build social skills in a supportive group setting.  

Participants will meet for 90 minutes once a week on Monday afternoons, and explore a variety of recreational activities, from art and storytelling, to games and team challenges.

FREE Virtual Paving the Path to Work Program from March of Dimes

March of Dimes’ Paving the Path to Work program is a free virtual 6-week program designed to help participants build confidence, strengthen employment skills, explore workplace expectations, and develop clear goals for what comes next. 

Participants are supported in a structured, encouraging environment while exploring work and volunteer opportunities at their own pace.

Apply Today for the Autism Ontario One to One Summer Support Worker Reimbursement Fund

The One-to-One Summer Support Worker Reimbursement Fund is available to Ontario families of children or youth with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) who retain the services of a one-to-one worker to accompany their child to a camp of program, or out on community outings during the months of July and August.

Maximum reimbursements of $600, per child or youth, (up to their 18th birthday), will be made to subsidize services between July and August. Reimbursement will be provided on a random selection made by all eligible applicants who apply. A minimum of 500 children from across Ontario are expected to receive reimbursement.

All applications must be received by May 31, 2026, to be considered for the randomized draw.

DSO Webinar: “Help Shape Canada’s National Housing Strategy”

Join Developmental Services Ontario (DSO) on Wednesday, May 20 from 12 p.m. – 1 p.m. (EST) for the free virtual webinar, Help Shape Canada’s National Housing Strategy.

This webinar will be facilitated by DSO Housing Navigators from the Toronto Region, South-East Region, and Eastern Region. It is open to people with a developmental disability, their family members and/or support networks, and developmental service professionals in Ontario.

Make your voice heard! Help advocate for a housing strategy that represents the dignity and human rights of all people, including those with developmental disabilities.

Topics include:

  • Basic information about the National Housing Strategy
  • Why the voices of people with developmental disabilities and those supporting them are essential to informing Federal housing policy
  • Information, guidance, and templates to help you write a letter to:
    • Your Member of Parliament (MP), and
    • The Federal Minister of Housing and Infrastructure, the Honourable Gregor Robertson

New Client Portal for SCS Administered Funding

Later this year, SCS will begin using a secure online client portal. This new portal will make it easier for you to access your information and complete tasks online.

The portal is designed to support independence, provide clear up‑to‑date information and offer a secure and convenient way to manage your funding‑related details.

The expected launch is July 2026. We will share more information and provide opportunities to learn about the new system closer to the launch date.

Client Portal Capabilities:

When the client portal becomes available, you will be able to:

  • Send and receive secure messages with your SCS team about your funding and services
  • Review and update your personal information
  • View your approved SCS funding, including:
    • Your total approved funding amount
    • Payments that have been made
    • Your remaining available balance
  • View a list of payments made for approved services
  • View and update information for your workers and service providers, such as contact details
  • Submit invoices or review and approve invoices submitted by service providers
  • Review and sign required SCS funding agreements online

Support will be available to help you use the new client portal, including:

  • Clear, step‑by‑step instructions
  • Plain‑language guides
  • Assistance from our team
