📅Ottawa Independent Living Resource Centre’s November Calendar
📢It’s Canadian Down Syndrome Week!
This year for Canadian Down Syndrome Week, join the Down Syndrome Association of Ontario to explore the importance of social connections to our health and happiness and how societal barriers contribute to social isolation in the Down syndrome community. Feeling ignored or misunderstood by society is a reality many youth and adults with Down syndrome face, especially once school is over and routines change. The amount of time spent sitting rises, time outside the home decreases, and new relationships are harder to establish.

🏃♂️➡️MOVE by GoodLife Kids Program
Looking for a FREE program for your youth to get active all year round? Look no further!
MOVE by GoodLife Kids Program is a FREE physical activity and fitness program created to build physical and mental well-being as well as community and confidence for youth ages 12 -21 with autism and intellectual disabilities across Canada. Youth with autism and intellectual disabilities often face barriers to participation in physical activity and fitness programs: whether it be a higher cost, whether it’s a lack of support for individual needs, or the environment itself is inaccessible. MOVE was created to break down these barriers and cultivate a sense of belonging through the power of movement.
The MOVE Program is led in person and virtually by specially trained Coaches and Support Agents who utilize adaptive programming to tailor classes to the unique needs of each participant, ensuring a fun and inclusive experience.
A Typical Class Structure Includes:
10 minutes – Welcome, talk topic, and warm-up
40 minutes – 1-3 Exercise circuits with games and dance breaks in between
10 minutes – Cool down and goodbyes
